A bid has been accepted in Ozark County for almost $172,000 to begin making updates to the jail.

The Ozark County Times is reporting the bid will retrofit the jail built in 1996 with new security, wiring, cameras, computer servers and infrastructure.

The bid from Cosmec Consulting, an Ozark County-based company, was approved earlier this month during the regular meeting of the Ozark County commissioners.

The new system is said to be highly secure and used by many prisons and the U.S. Army and Navy.

Cosmec Consulting owners, Jason and Michael Sponaugle, say the project is set to begin right away, with the acquisition of materials beginning in roughly three months, and is estimated to take six months to complete.

The bid also included 10 state-of-the-art body cameras for officers.

The improvements are being paid with money the county received from the American Rescue Plan Act.
