National Library Week has kicked off and will continue through Saturday. During National Library Week, the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County is encouraging all community members to visit the library to explore and access services and programs.
This week, there will be chances to donate items for the Baxter Regional Medical Center Support Houses in exchange for library fines to be forgiven. The Support Houses are looking for disinfectant wipes and boxes of tissue. For each disinfectant canister, $10 in fines will be forgiven. For each box of tissues, $5 in fines will be forgiven. There is a limit of up to $50 per person.
The Baxter County Library offers a wide array of programs, classes, and resources that are available in person or from the comfort of home, including Flipster, access to digital magazines, Libby, digital eBooks, audiobooks, and videos, Creativebug, thousands of online arts and craft videos and more.
National Library Week is seen as a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The theme for this year’s National Library Week is “Connect with Your Library,” which promotes the idea of libraries being places to connect with technology by using broadband, computers, and other resources. Libraries also offer opportunities to connect with media, programs, ideas, classes, and books.
The Donald W. Reynolds Library supports the community with services for every age group: Childrens story times and snacks, teen get-togethers, adult activities, and family programs.
The library is encouraging the community to show support this week either by visiting in person, or online.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types each April.
