Voters in Ozark County have rejected an internet sales tax proposal during a special election Tuesday. The proposal was defeated with 640 or 63% voting against it while 372 or 37% voted in favor.

A similar proposal was defeated by voters in April, 2020.

The proposal would have allowed the county to collect 2.5% sales tax on items purchased over the internet in Ozark County with the money going towards the county’s general revenue fund, law enforcement and road and bridge. Supporters say it would have also leveled the playing field for local retailers who are required to collect the tax.
