
A national website has put together a list of the top 25 counties in Arkansas to retire to and North Central Arkansas is well represented with five counties in the top 25, three in the top 10 and the number one county on the list.
Stacker.com., a media outlet dedicated to travel, sports, finance and more, says “When seniors aged 65 years or older decide on where they want to live out their golden years, they consider very specific factors, such as the cost of living, government services, health care facilities, weather and overall climate, crime rate, outdoor recreational activities, eating establishments, cultural and entertainment opportunities, and more.”
Stacker used that criteria and data from niche.com to put their list together. Niche gives grades in four categories that affect retirees.
Topping the list is Baxter County. Stacker says Mountain Home and Salesville are the top places in live in Baxter County. Niche gives Baxter County an A+ when it comes to being good for retirees, a B+ for cost of living, a B- for weather and a C+ for outdoor activities.
Izard County is ranked third on the list. Stacker says the best places to live are Violet Hill, Melbourne and Mill Creek Township. Niche gives Izard County a grade of an A for being good for retirees and cost of living, a B- for weather and a C+ for outdoor activities.
Also in the top ten is Fulton County at number eight. Stacker says Mammoth Spring, Strawberry Township and Washington Township are the best places to live. Being good for retirees and cost of living are graded an A by Niche, weather gets a B- and outdoor activities gets a C+.
Searcy County checks in at number 15 on the list. Stacker says the best places to live are Prairie Township, Rock Creek Township and Pindall. The Niche grades in an A for cost of living, an A- for being good for retirees, a B for weather and a C+ for outdoor activities.
The final county from our area to be ranked is Stone at number 19. Stacker lists Sylamore, Richwoods Township and Northwest Township as the best places to live. Niche gives an A- grade for both being good for retirees and cost of living, a B for weather and a C for outdoor activities.
