A Clarkridge man charged with domestic violence appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court last week.
Fifty-five-year-old Charles Richard Cox was arrested after a report was made that Cox had assaulted his wife, breaking bones when he smashed her foot and ankle with his boot as she lay on the floor.
A request was made of Circuit Judge John Putman to lower Cox’s bond, but the judge refused. He said he did not want to lower the bond because of the seriousness of the allegations.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the attack occurred Mar. 2, but the wife was too frightened to report it until Mar. 10.
The investigative report alleges Cox returned to the couple’s residence along Somer View Drive in Clarkridge around midnight Mar. 2 upset, and began arguing with his wife of 23 years.
The disagreement is reported to have centered on Cox’s Social Security payment.
The victim said when she tried to get up from her chair, Cox is alleged to have pushed her chest knocking her back down. She was able to get up again, but fell to the floor. It was at that point that Cox is reported to have “stomped her ankle and foot with his boot.”
She sought medical attention and learned one bone in her foot was broken and another fractured.
Investigators said the victim was initially afraid to return home, fearing what Cox might do. For a time, she stayed away from the couple’s home.
She told investigators the recent event was not the first example of violence involving the couple, but was “different” because of the broken bones.
Cox has been in the Baxter County Detention Center since Mar. 14 with bond set at $15,000.
