Ozark Folk Center State Park announces opening season and music events

The Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View will open Friday in conjunction with the city’s Arkansas Folk Festival.

2022 marks 60 years of the annual spring celebration in Mountain View. Admission to the craft village on both Friday and Saturday is free. The event will begin Friday morning at 10 and run through Saturday afternoon at 3.

The Ozark Folk Center is providing free shuttles to downtown. The event will include shopping with vendors, food vendors, a parade Saturday morning and a 5k run Saturday afternoon.

The 2022 season for the center will then run through Oct. 22 in the self-proclaimed “Folk Music Capital of the World.”

The state park will host five family-friendly music festivals this year at the Ozark Highlands Theatre, featuring talent from the Mountain View music scene and performances by Grammy award-winning musicians.

Music events this season will include:

*The Dulcimer Jamboree – April 29, 30;

*Cowboy Music and Arts Festival — May 20, 21;

*Country Blues and BBQ — June 17, 18;

*Bluegrass and Fried Chicken — Aug. 26, 27; and

*The Stringband Music and Arts Festival — Oct. 17, 18.

The state park is also home to the Craft Village where dozens of master craftsmen and women make, sell and demonstrate a variety of modern and traditional crafts during special events. The park hosts daytime music sets for visitors to enjoy while experiencing the 20 different artisnal shops.

For visitors who enjoy the natural beauty of the Ozarks, the Heritage Herb Garden contains passalong plants, flowers and herbs for healing. Many plants are available for sale in the park’s Herb Arbor.

The park offers a variety of opportunities for families with young children, including chances to ride on the animal-powered picnic swing with Whiskey or Tango the Donkey.

Multiple educational opportunities are available, including “Living History” at the historic Shannon Cabin and one-room schoolhouse.

The Craft Village, Hertiage Herb Garden, daytime music performances and attractions are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Tuesday through Saturday during the season. Loco Ropes Treetop Adventures is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Nov. 26.
