Voter registration deadline for May primary set for Monday

As the May 24th Primary and School Board Election approaches, Baxter County and Circuit Court Clerk Canda Reese reminds local residents Monday is the final date to register to vote in the upcoming election.

The April 25 registration deadline applies to anyone who is a new voter, a Baxter County resident who has not voted recently or someone who has moved to Arkansas from another state.

Registered voters who have moved to Baxter County from another county within the state have more time to update their registration.

Baxter County residents who have moved within the county since they last voted are also required to update their registration before election day, says Reese.

Voters may register or update their registration at their county clerk’s office. In Baxter County, the county clerk’s office is located on the first floor of the county court house at 1 East Seventh Street in Mountain Home.

The requirements to register to vote in Arkansas include, U.S. citizenship, Arkansas residency and a minimum age of 18 on or before election day. Additionally, a convicted felon whose sentence has not been discharged or pardoned and anyone judged as mentally incompetent to be able to vote by a court of competent jurisdiction cannot register to vote.
