Fire heavily damages popular convenience store

A late night fire has heavily damaged a popular area convenience store. The blaze at J&J Convenience Store at 14345 U.S. Highway 62/412 in Henderson was reported shortly after 11 Monday night.

Henderson Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Kaleb Johnson says the building suffered heavy fire and smoke damage. Fire fighters from Henderson, Hand Cove, Gamaliel 101 and Northeast Lakeside were on the scene for about four hours and used 4,000 gallons of water fighting the fire.

Chief Johnson says no one was in the store and no injuries were reported to fire fighters.

The fire was reported by a passerby.

Officials are unsure at this point how the fire started.
