Thursday results include Cotter baseball team advancing to district final

The Cotter High School baseball team is one win away from capturing the 2A-1 District Tournament championship on its home turf. The Warriors got past Flippin 6-5 in Thursday’s second semifinal game at Marty Hall Field.
Cotter’s next opponent will be Yellville-Summit. The Panthers were able to knock off top-seeded Life Way Christian by a final of 6-1.

The 1A-2 District Baseball Tournament got underway at Izard County High School in Brockwell. Calico Rock began the day by routing Shirley 13-3. Norfork was able to secure a regional tournament bid after squeaking by the Pirates 7-6. Viola also advanced to the semifinals after beating Concord 15-10.

Mammoth Spring was eliminated from the 1A-3 District Tournament at Hillcrest High School in Strawberry. The Bears fell to the host Screamin’ Eagles 15-0.

Melbourne advanced to the title game of the 2A-2 District Tournament at Midland High School in Pleasant Plains. The Bearkatz shut out Tuckerman 10-0.

Bakersfield was a 10-0 winner over county rival Dora.

In softball action, The season came to an end for Norfork in the opening game of the 1A-2 District Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell with a 16-1 loss to the host Lady Cougars. Megan McBride picked up the win in the circle by pitching four innings, striking out 11 batters and giving up one hit and one run. Katie Orf led the Izard County offense with three hits and three RBIs, Quinn Johnson provided a hit and drove in three runs, Natalie Glass had a hit and two RBIs, and Hollie Johnson added a hit and drove in a run.
Izard County later secured a regional berth with a 6-4 victory over Viola. McBride pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and seven hits. The Lady Cougar offense was led by Quinn Johnson with two hits and three RBIs, McBride provided two hits and drove in two runs, Makensie Yancey ended up with two hits and an RBI, and Hollie Johnson and Lilly Sanders each added a hit and an RBI. Izard County improves to 13-7 on the season.
Calico Rock also picked up two wins to advance to the district semifinals. The Lady Pirates first topped Rural Special 15-0. Calico Rock later upset another group of Lady Pirates with a 7-2 victory over Concord.

Mammoth Spring ended up as the runner-up of the 1A-3 District Softball Tournament at Hillcrest High School in Strawberry. The Lady Bears began the day by topping Marked Tree 7-2. Mammoth Spring went on to the title game and was edged out by Armorel 5-4.

Melbourne was bounced from the 2A-2 District Tournament at Midland High School in Pleasant Plains. The Lady Bearkatz lost to Cedar Ridge 11-9 in the semifinals.
