Forty-four-year-old Michael Spurlock has been arrested on felony charges of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest after allegedly spitting in a deputy’s face.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Marion County deputies were dispatched to a residence along Hansen Street in Pyatt for a possible physical domestic case. Upon arrival deputies located Spurlock in the doorway of his residence before going inside and locking himself in. Due to a previous encounter with Spurlock, deputies were aware he had a warrant for arrest out of Boone County for failure to appear.

While a deputy was attempting to make contact with Spurlock, another made contact with a witness who stated she saw Spurlock choking his wife through the window. The witness stated she also wanted to report items allegedly stolen from her by Spurlock.

Spurlock’s wife was then contacted who said the altercation began because she believed Spurlock was cheating on her. She stated Spurlock grabbed her by the hair and below the neck, but was not choking her. No visible markings were present.

At this point, Spurlock allowed deputies inside where he confirmed his wife’s story. Deputies then advised Spurlock about the warrant out of Boone County when he became aggravated about being arrested.

Deputies grabbed Spurlock by his arm to avoid him possibly locking himself in the bedroom when he began yelling and spit a piece of candy from his mouth.

Deputies began to escort Spurlock outside the residence when he began using obscene language and refused to stay still to be handcuffed. He was then placed face-down on the ground in order for deputies to regain control. Once the cuffs were locked, Spurlock turned on his side and began trying to kick out at deputies.

Once placed in the patrol unit, Spurlock continued to spit and hit at deputies.

Spurlock is currently free on a bond of $7,500.
