A Mountain Home woman is accused of kicking her child in the head and biting a deputy after he and others responded to a call of her grandparents being threatened. Twenty-nine-year-old April Leia Raymond is in the Baxter County Detention Center on a felony count of second-degree battery on a police officer and misdemeanor counts of assault on a family member, endangering the welfare of a minor and resisting arrest.
According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, deputies responded to a 911 call just after 3 Friday morning of a female threatening her grandparents with a knife on County Road 158, between Mountain Home and Pigeon Creek. When they arrived, they located a suspect, identified as Raymond, holding her five-year-old child.
One of the deputies was speaking with Raymond when she allegedly shoved him in his chest and refused his command to set the child down. The other deputy was able to take the child from Raymond, but she then reportedly kicked the child in the head. The child had no serious injuries.
Raymond began to fight with the deputies, allegedly biting one hard enough to draw blood. She was dry stunned, and deputies placed her in handcuffs and transported her to the detention center without further incident.
Raymond’s bond is set at $15,000. She will be in Baxter County Circuit Court later this month.
