
Several area high school baseball and softball teams continued regional tournament play on Saturday.
The Class 1A Region 2 Baseball Tournament held its semifinal round at Marked Tree.
Norfork ended up getting sent to Monday’s third place game. The Panthers were edged out by Greers Ferry West Side 2-1.
Izard County will be the Eagles’ opponent in Monday’s title game after beating up on Hillcrest 15-3. Gunner Gleghorn led the Cougars with three hits and three RBIs, Tyler Hill provided three hits and scored three runs, Xander McCandlis and Gavin Stephens each had two hits and three RBIs, Landon McBride added two hits and drove in two runs, Denton Reiley ended up with a hit and four runs. Izard County improves to 19-6 on the season.
Melbourne’s baseball team fell in the semifinals of the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament at South Side-Bee Branch. The Bearkatz lost a high-scoring game to the host Hornets 14-10. Melbourne will meet Bigelow in Monday’s third place game.
Lead Hill finished the Class 1A Region 1 Baseball Tournament in fourth place at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Tigers first fell to County Line 10-9, and they later lost the third place game to Ozark Catholic 29-9.
Harrison’s baseball team was crowned the champions of the Class 4A North Regional Tournament at Morrilton. The Goblins defeated Shiloh Christian 9-5 in the semifinals, and they doubled up Farmington 4-2 in the title game.
Two local softball teams wrapped up play in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Mansfield. In the semifinals, Cotter fell to the host Lady Tigers 19-0, and Flippin lost to Lavaca 7-0. The Lady Warriors later fell to the Lady Bobcats 14-8 in the third place game.
Two area schools finished the Class 1A Region 2 Softball Tournament at Marked Tree. In the semifinal round, Calico Rock lost to Armorel 6-0, and Mammoth Spring fell to Greers Ferry West Side 10-0. In the third place game, the Lady Pirates lost to the Lady Bears 9-6.
Melbourne’s softball team got beat in the semifinals of the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament at South Side-Bee Branch. The Lady Bearkatz fell to Tuckerman 11-0. Melbourne faces Cedar Ridge in Monday’s third place game.
Valley Springs was sent to the third place game of the Class 3A Region 1 Softball Tournament at Greenland. The Lady Tigers lost to Booneville 15-0. Valley Springs will take on Hackett on Monday.
Harrison’s softball team was able to join its baseball counterparts as the champions of the Class 4A North Regional Tournament at Morrilton. The Lady Goblins pounded Gravette 12-3 in the semifinals, and they doubled up Farmington 4-2 in the title game.
Jasper won the title of the Class 1A Region 1 Softball Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Lady Pirates topped Mulberry 9-6 in the semifinals, and they later beat County Line 6-2 in the championship game.
