Monday results include Norfork finishing 3rd in regional baseball tourney

Regional tournaments came to an end for baseball and softball Monday in Arkansas.

Norfork’s baseball team finished the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament in third place at Marked Tree. The Panthers defeated Hillcrest 8-2.
Izard County fell short of the regional championship. The Cougars suffered a 10-4 loss at the hands of Greers Ferry West Side.

Melbourne breezed its way to a third place finish in the Class 2A Central Regional Baseball Tournament at South Side-Bee Branch. The Bearkatz beat up on Bigelow 9-2.

Melbourne did not fare as well in the Class 2A Central Regional Softball Tournament at South Side. The Lady Bearkatz were edged out by Cedar Ridge 6-5 in the third place game.

Valley Springs had a rough outing on the final day of the Class 3A Region 1 Softball Tournament at Greenland. The Lady Tigers ended up fourth after falling to Hackett 14-1.

District play started Monday for spring softball in Missouri.

Two area schools were in Clever for the start of the Class 2, District 5 Tournament. Hollister’s season ended with a 10-0 loss to the host Lady Jays. Forsyth advanced to the semifinals with a 7-3 win over Marionville.

Ava won its opener in the Class 2, District 4 Tournament at Mansfield. The top-seeded Lady Bears shut out Licking by a final of 15-0.
