MH among baseball, softball teams to begin state tournaments

High school baseball and softball make up much of the local Thursday schedule with start of state tournament play in Arkansas.

Mountain Home’s baseball team will be in Hot Springs for the start of the Class 5A State Tournament. The Bombers’ first opponent will be Little Rock Christian.
Mountain Home brings a record of 16-11-1 into the tournament. The Bombers are the third-seeded team from the 5A-West. Christian is the No. 2 seed from the 5A-Central. The Warriors have a mark of 22-7.
The first pitch at Lakeside High School is scheduled for 12:30. Thursday’s game will be on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com and on the Bomber Sports Network channel on YouTube.

Three area baseball teams will begin action in the Class 1A State Tournament. At Ouachita High School in Donaldson, Izard County meets Ozark Catholic at 12:30, and Norfork faces County Line at 5:30. Lead Hill takes on Greers Ferry West Side at 3 at the Arkadelphia Youth Sports Complex.

Melbourne’s first game in the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament will be on the campus of Greenbrier High School. The Bearkatz play Murfreesboro at 5:30.

Harrison’s baseball team goes to Nashville for its opener in the Class 4A State Tournament. The Goblins will be paired with Star City at 5:30.

District play begins for high school baseball in Missouri, and Dora will start hosting the Class 1, District 4 Tournament. The Falcons get underway at 4 with Niangua.

The Mountain Home softball team will be at Majestic Park in Hot Springs for the start of the Class 5A State Tournament. The Lady Bombers will go up against Benton.
Mountain Home is the No. 4 seed from the 5A-West. The Lady Bombers are currently 12-13 on the season. Benton is undefeated in 28 games on the year. The Lady Panthers were the champions of the 5A-Central.

Three area softball teams will have their first games in the Class 2A State Tournament. At South Side-Bee Branch, Melbourne and Woodlawn get started at 10, and Flippin meets McCrory at 5:30. Cotter faces East Poinsett County at the Greenbrier Softball Complex.

Valley Springs is the designated host school for the Class 3A State Softball Tournament, and they’ll be in one of the openers at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Lady Tigers play Bald Knob on Cavender’s Field at 10.
