
Three area teams competed in the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament hosted by Ouachita.
Norfork just missed out on being able to continue its season. The Panthers were edged out by County Line 9-8 at Ouachita High School.
Izard County was able to invoke the mercy rule in the fifth inning with a 15-0 shutout win over Ozark Catholic. Xander McCandlis picked up the victory on the mound by pitching three innings, striking out six batters and giving up no hits. He also provided plenty of offense by scoring a run and driving in two more. Denton Reiley led the Cougars with two hits, including a home run, four runs and two RBIs; Landon McBride provided a hit and drove in three runs; and Gunner Gleghorn added a double, two runs and an RBI. Izard County is now 20-7 on the year.
Lead Hill was eliminated from the tournament at the Arkadelphia Youth Sports Complex. The Tigers fell to Greers Ferry West Side 12-0.
Melbourne was victorious in the Class 2A State Tournament hosted by South Side-Bee Branch. The Bearkatz took the last game of the day at Greenbrier High School 5-3 over Murfreesboro.
Harrison had a good evening to wrap up the first round of the Class 4A State Tournament at Nashville. The Goblins pounded Star City 14-6.
District play began Thursday in Missouri, and Dora had a dominating performance as they started hosting the Class 1, District 4 Tournament. The Falcons destroyed Niangua 17-2.
