Softball state tourney openers Thursday include wins for Calico Rock, Melbourne

Three area softball teams began the Class 2A State Tournament hosted by South Side-Bee Branch.

Cotter ended up being one and done at the Greenbrier Softball Complex. Cotter suffered an 11-1 defeat to another group of Lady Warriors from East Poinsett County.

Flippin did not fare any better in the last game on the South Side campus. The Lady Bobcats fell to McCrory by a final of 10-4.

The first game of the day went to Melbourne. The Lady Bearkatz scored once, but it’s all they needed as they topped Woodlawn 1-0.

Three other area teams played their openers in the Class 1A State Tournament at the Arkadelphia Youth Sports Complex.
One of the first games of the day was a battle between Lady Pirates. Calico Rock ended up beating Jasper with a 16-0 decision.
One of the last games of the day ended up being an easy win for Mammoth Spring. The Lady Bears destroyed County Line 28-5.

Valley Springs was bounced from the Class 3A State Tournament that they were hosting at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Lady Tigers lost the morning session to Bald Knob 3-0.
