For the first time in school history, the Gainesville High School baseball team is headed to the final four. The Bulldogs defeated defending state champs Marionville 2-1 Wednesday evening in Springfield. The game was originally set to be played in Marionville, but was moved to Parkview High School because of wet field conditions.

Andrew Hambleton and Jake Leeker combined to throw a three-hitter against the Comets. Wyatt Alms hit a two-run home run to give Gainesville the lead, and the pitching staff did the rest.

It was sweet revenge for Gainesville who lost to Marionville last year in the second round of the state tournament.

The Bulldogs are 22-6 on the season and will face Portageville, who is 30-3, Monday morning at 10 in Ozark in the state semifinals.
