
Flippin High School students recently had artwork on display at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. Their works were selected in the 2022 Governor’s Young Artist Exhibition and Contest. Honored artists are Taylor Henley, daughter of David and Gretchen Henely; Sadie Akers, daughter of Scott and Melissa Akers; and Adrianne Benedict, daughter of Bryan and Andrea Benedict. Miss Benedict had three artworks accepted into this show.
The Art Department held the 37th Annual Fine Arts Extravaganza. Middle School students who received Honorable Mention are James Porter, Brentton McCune, Michael Avelar, Emily Crownover, Sarah Peterson, Hunter Jones, Paul Chism, Ethan Pence, Brianna Ford, Tru Amerson, Kamryn Phillips and Lela Schroder.
The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts announced the top winners in the 61st Young Arkansas Artist Exhibition. Each Arkansas art teacher is encouraged to enter one artwork per grade level for this juried competition. Out of over 402 student submissions from 98 schools, only 68 were chosen from 22 cities, five per each grade. Each grade level is awarded a “Best in Class” and an “Honorable Mention.” Adrianne Benedict and her artwork entitled “Self Portrait” was chosen Honorable Mention. This pen and ink self portrait drawing is completely done in words of her favorite bible verses.
Art students won top awards at the Arkansas Young Artist Association State Competition and Convention held at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. Receiving awards were Kelsey Hickey, 2nd Place, 1st Year Pen and Ink; Landon Perry, Honorable Mention, Color Photography, and 4th Place, Black and White Photography; Sadie Akers, 4th Place Printmaking Relief; Adrianne Benedict, 2nd Place, Markers, All Forms and 4th Place Tempera Abstract; Vaughn Stone, 4th Place 1st year Dry Color Medium and 3rd Place, 1st Year Collage; Shannon Smith, 1st Place, OnSite Marker/Gel Pen and 2nd Place, Fiber Arts Abstract.
Elected 2022-2023 Arkansas Young Artist Association State Officers are President: Payne Moussa, Corresponding Secretary: Kelsey Hickey, Treasurer: Taylor Henley, 1st Vice President: Sadie Akers, 2nd Vice President: Addrianne Benedict. Mrs. Cheryl Blasdel is the AYAA State Sponsor.
Senior Shannon Smith was the recipient of the Genevieve Fancher Art Scholarship. This $500 scholarship is offered by J.K. Fancher and the Harrison Art League in memory of Genevieve Fancher for her love of art and her many years of service to the Harrison Art League.
Dr. Robyn Theobald-Leiniger was honored with the 2022 Arkansas Young Artist Association Patron of the Arts Award. This award is given to an individual who has given exemplary leadership, commitment, support and encouragement to young Arkansas artists. Theobald was nominated by Art Instructor, Mrs. Cheryl Blasdel and Flippin High School art students.
Theobald was recognized at the Arkansas Young Artist Association state Convention and Competition held at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock on April 20th.
