Gainesville set for state semifinals on Memorial Day

The Gainesville High School baseball team is spending Memorial Day in Ozark. Gainesville will take the field for the first game of the day as they meet another group of Bulldogs from Portageville in the semifinals of the Class 2 State Tournament.

Gainesville enters its first final four in program history with a record of 22-6. They entered the tournament as the champions of District 10 and picked up wins over Plato and Marionville. Prior to district play starting, Gainesville was ranked ninth in Class 2 by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association. Marionville was second in the same rankings.

Portageville is currently 30-3 on the season. They came into the tournament as the champions from District 1 defeated East Carter and Greenville in the first two rounds. Portageville was fourth in the most recent coaches association rankings.

The first pitch at US Baseball Park is scheduled for 10.
