A man who called police reporting a woman had pointed a gun at him but wound up being the one arrested, appeared during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court last week.
Fifty-two-year-old Herman Haenisch of Mountain Home pled guilty to the charges filed against him as a result of the incident and was sentenced to three years probation.
On Oct. 14 last year, Haenisch called police from the vicinity of the midtown McDonalds and reported the incident concerning the woman with the gun.
Shortly after, a female called police from the same location and reported a man had broken into her car and was sitting in it when she went to the vehicle to leave work.
One Mountain Home police officer spoke with Haenisch in the parking lot of a nearby business and another officer made contact with the woman at the restaurant.
The woman told police her shift had ended and when she started to get into her car, a male she did not know was sitting in the passenger seat.
She said she quickly grabbed a handgun from a storage area and demanded the stranger get out of her vehicle.
The man did get out of the car and left the immediate vicinity. The woman then made her call to 911.
The officer questioning Haenish found a small plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine.
Footage from one of the restaurant’s surveillance cameras was reviewed. It showed Haenisch walking up to the woman’s vehicle and entering it through the passenger’s side door.
He was seen getting in and out of the vehicle several times.
The woman was shown coming out to get in her car about 15 minutes after Haenisch first entered the vehicle.
With the woman’s story confirmed, Haenisch was arrested and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center.
He was booked on charges of breaking or entering and possession of methamphetamine.
He has been free on a $5,000 bond.
