
May reflected another positive month for Baxter County’s sales tax numbers.The county collected a total of $891,596 from its 1.25% sales tax for the month, keeping 56% of that revenue and distributing the rest among the county’s nine cities based on their population.
According to figures released by County Treasurer Jenay Mize, Baxter County’s portion was $507,794. That is a 4.9% increase of $23,832 in sales tax revenue compared to the May 2021 collection of $483,962.
Mountain Home Treasurer Alma Clark reports the city collected $574,043 in revenue from its own 2.13% sales tax. That is a 0.0054% increase of $31.21 from its May 2021 sales tax collection of $574,012.
Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. May’s numbers reflect area spending from March.
Mountain Home also received $274,649 in May revenue from the county’s 1.25% sales tax. Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s sales tax include:
– Gassville, which received $46,500;
– Cotter, which received $18,976;
– Lakeview, which received $16,599;
– Salesville, which received $10,131;
– Norfork, which received $9,959;
– Briarcliff, which received $5,054; and
– Big Flat, which received $1,884.
According to Clark, the sales tax is the best its ever been in Mountain Home. Over the five months of the year so far, Mountain Home has collected over $1.2 Million from its 2.13% sales tax.
Baxter County received $222,899 in revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operation of the Baxter County Detention Center. For the year, it has received over $994,318 from that sales tax.
Mountain Home received $215,266 in May from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments.
Mountain Home has collected $287,021 from the park improvement sales tax, which is $56,631.86 more than needed for Bond Payment of $230,390.
Park operation sales tax for may totals $143,510.
