A Lakeview man who has been in trouble in the past stemming from his involvement in violent domestic altercations was back in Baxter County Circuit Court last week facing the same type allegations.
Thirty-nine-year-old Christopher Wilson Packley was arrested July 18 and is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a charge of 2nd degree domestic battery and for violating the terms and conditions of his parole.
His bond is set at $50,000. Packley has requested that his bond be lowered and Circuit Judge John Putman set September 19 to hold a hearing on the request.
Packley was arrested after a woman, identified as his wife, reported the couple had been arguing when he grabbed her, threw her to the ground, mounted her and put his hands around her neck.
She said she was almost unconsciousness when her brother-in-law intervened and pulled Packley off of her.
PREVIOUS CASE
Packley has been in trouble before stemming from altercations with household members.
In mid-February 2017, he was arrested for his involvement in a domestic altercation in which he is alleged to have fired shots at a woman identified as his girlfriend.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the 2017 case, a man living along Hickory Flats Lane in Lakeview called the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office and reported a naked woman had come to his door.
The caller said the woman had told him that Packley had fired a gun at her and that her small child remained in the home from which she had fled and she feared he was in danger.
When Baxter County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, the woman told them she and Packley had been arguing and that the situation continued to escalate.
At one point, the victim said she went to bed hoping that might end the fight, but she said Packley continued to berate her.
She said Packley began choking her while holding her down on the floor.
The victim said she tried to hold her son between them hoping that would put an end to the fight.
The victim was finally able to free herself and run out of the house. She went to the neighbor’s home and asked that law enforcement be called.
She told investigators that Packley followed her outside and fired a rifle at her.
When deputies made contact with Packley, he admitted firing three shots from a rifle, but said he shot into the air in hopes his girlfriend would stop and return to the house.
He told investigators the fight had been triggered when he tried to stop his girlfriend from taking a number of pills as she had tried to do the night before.
Deputies who met with Packley reported a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person and that his voice was very slurred.
Packley was arrested and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center. He was charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.
He pled guilty to the charges in the 2017 case in July 2018.
