Mountain View High School will look to wrap up its first season of eight-man football with a state championship on Friday. The Yellowjackets will be in front of the home crowd to take on Fountain Lake in the Classes 4A/3A title game.
Mountain View head coach Michael Gray says it ended up being a fun year that started with some uncertainties in the offseason.
Listen:
Mountain View is currently unbeaten in nine games on the season and ranked No. 1 in Classes 4A/3A by Arkansas Sports Media. The Yellowjackets defeated Genoa Central in last week’s semifinals.
Gray says the record is evident of how the team handled the transition to eight-man football from the traditional 11-on-11 game.
Listen:
Mountain View will take on a Fountain Lake team that they have already faced this year. The Yellowjackets edged out the Cobras 30-27 on Oct. 14. Gray says Fountain Lake has a deadly combination of being big, strong and “extremely athletic.”
Listen:
Kickoff at Yellowjacket Stadium is scheduled for 7.
