For the third year in a row, the Mountain Home High School football team will be advancing to the quarterfinals of the Class 6A State Playoffs. The Bombers opened the postseason on Friday with a 23-6 victory at Marion.

Mountain Home scored the first nine points of the game due in part to the Patriots’ punt team giving the Bombers their first two possessions inside the Marion 30-yard line. Mountain Home was held scoreless for the remainder of the half, and the Patriots scored with less than a minute left in the second quarter. That was all Marion would get. Mountain Home went back up two scores after a 61-yard drive ended with a five-yard pass from Cade Yates to Dillon Drewry in the end zone. Drewry put the game further out of reach with a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown. Brady Barnett was able to get another pick near the end of the game, and the Bombers were able to run out the clock for the 17-point win.

Yates completed five passes out of 10 attempts for 63 yards and two touchdowns. For the Patriots, Ashton Gray was 11-of-27 through the air with 157 yards and a score, and he carried the ball 24 times for another 66 yards.

Mountain Home improve to 4-7 on the season. Marion’s campaign ends at 7-4.

The Bombers will travel to Little Rock next week to face Pulaski Academy in the state quarterfinals.
