A habitual offender in Izard County has been charged with multiple counts of theft after reports of trespassing.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Izard County Sheriff’s Office was notified a stolen motorcycle had been discovered in a wooden area by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) in Calico Rock. The AGFC said they were working a trespassing/night-hunting tip and discovered a motorcycle which had been stolen out of Rogers.
Upon further investigation, the AGFC had reason to suspect 44-year-old Cortney Jennings as the offender since the motorcycle in question was discovered on his property. There was also an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) hidden behind some sheet metal in effort to conceal its location. Law enforcement confirmed it matched the general description from the game camera footage from the property across the street. They also found a piece of yellow rope tied to the ATV that matched a piece tied to a dead whitetail doe, found approximately 10 yards from the stolen motorcycle. Officers were unable to find the VIN number, but do to the fact the ignition had been removed, they suspected it was stolen as well.
Officers were able to confirm Jennings was a convicted felon and was on active supervision with a search waiver on file. A home-vist of his property was arranged to be conducted, but no one was home. Authorities proceeded to search the perimeter of the property where an utility task vehicle (UTV) and ATV were discovered and confirmed stolen. In addition, several firearms were also found on the property and seized into evidence.
Jennings was charged with one felony count of theft by receiving greater than $5,000, two counts of theft by receiving more than $1,00, three counts of possession of firearms by certain persons and as a habitual offender. He is currently being held in the Izard County Detention Center on $30,860 bond.
