The Melbourne High School football team was able to advance in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A State Playoffs in what might have been one of the best games of the week. The Bearkatz were able to get past Glen Rose 21-20 on Friday.

Melbourne was tied at 14 with the Beavers at halftime. The Bearkatz scored first. Glen Rose recovered a punt return muffed by Melbourne and scored a few plays later, but they missed the extra point to trail by one. Later, the Beavers were hoping to take the lead with a field goal, but they weren’t able to get the kick off due to a bad snap. Glen Rose hurt themselves with turnovers on two straight possessions. The Bearkatz punted away, and the Beavers got the ball back with 11 seconds left. Glen Rose was able to complete the pass on the next play, but the clock hit zero, and Melbourne posted the one-point win.

The Bearkatz improve to 13-0 on the season, and they’ll host Booneville in next week’s semifinals.
