
The Mountain Home High School basketball teams wrapped up the first day of the Branson Battle at the Border on a successful note. The Bombers and Lady Bombers were able to sweep Waynesville, Missouri.
Mountain Home’s girls were able to dominate the Lady Tigers 73-32. The game was close for the first few minutes with the game being tied at 11, but the Lady Bombers took over from there. Mountain Home outscored Waynesville 22-8 in the second quarter and 22-13 in the third. The Lady Tigers were forced into 24 turnovers, and the Lady Bombers eventually invoked the mercy rule and posted the 41-point victory.
Parker Huskey led Mountain Home with 18 points, Laykin Moore scored 13, and Amelia Rucker added 10. Breona Hurd had 17 points for Waynesville, and Regan Grosvenor chipped in 11.
The Lady Bombers improve to 3-2 on the season. The Lady Tigers start the year at 0-1.
The boys’ game was more down to the wire, but Mountain Home was able to come out on top 48-46. The two teams exhanged the lead twice early on, but the Tigers led for the majority of the game. The Bombers kept it close throughout the contest. Mountain Home took the lead in the final period, and that would be the last lead change of the game. The Bombers went up by three possessions before Waynesville attempted a comeback. The Tigers cut the margin to two with less than a second left, but Mountain Home was able to run out the clock on the inbound pass to get the win.
The Bombers were led by Braiden Dewey with 11 points, and Ryder McClain provided 10. Tyrique Brooks finished with 25 points for Waynesville.
Mountain Home is now 4-1 on the year. The Tigers’ campaign begins at 0-1.
Both Bomber teams will continue the Branson Battle at the Border on Friday against Lake Hamilton.
