The Mountain Home City Council started their regular scheduled meeting Thursday night with the swearing in of the newly elected City Clerk, Scott Liles. In the last meeting, the council approved Liles to take over the position early and is set to start Monday.

Other new business included the council approving an ordinance allowing the rezoning of a property located at 2338 U.S. Highway 62/412 West from a residential R-2 property to a commercial C2-A. Known currently as the location of First Christian Church, the property is set to become the new office for Coleman Family Dentistry.

In personnel matters, the council approved holiday pay or the option to accrue compensatory time for non-uniformed employees that may have to work on a city holiday. They also approved the updated salary and job description the City Clerk.

A resolution was passed to allow the city to start soliciting for bids for a provider in order to create its own broadband service for the residents of Mountain Home. This service would allow citizens to have a choice in cable and/or internet providers when there had not been one previously. The city would own the infrastructure and lease back to the provider.

Mayor Hillrey Adams states he has been in communication with the leadership of Cabot, who is the first city in the state to create their own infrastructure for broadband for its citizens. Estimated costs to lay the fiber lines down in the service area are roughly $10 million, but the revenue from the services would offset the cost. The project would be a revenue bond. The resolution allows for the project to be explored and nothing has officially set.

The final resolution approved was to adopt the 2023 budget for the city.

The next City Council meeting is set for December 15.
