The Mountain Home City Council met for their final meeting of 2022 Thursday night.
The council heard a first reading for an ordinance regulating noise within the City of Mountain Home. The ordinance would apply to noises plainly audible heard from a distance of 150 feet for an extended period of time. Ordinances working in several cities around the state, including Northwest Arkansas and Little Rock, were reviewed as reference. The second reading will be heard at the first meeting of 2023. Each year, the Methvin Sanitation contract is reviewed for consumer price index (CPI) adjustments for services. The modification of rates are due to the fuel price component of the CPI. Methvin Sanitation requested a 6.6% price increase beginning January 1. Currently the surcharge is 5.372%, this would net an increase to 1.228%. The increase would not add to the current surcharge, but will be “resetting” the baseline. Officials from Methvin Sanitation state if the price of fuel continues to fall, so will the CPI. On average, consumers should only be 20 to 25 cent increase on their bill.
The council also approved an ordinance for the purchase of six Ford police vehicles from a dealership in Florida. The department tried to purchase the vehicles locally but were unavailable. The purchase will be made with the help of a fleet sourcing service based in Little Rock where the cost would include the vehicle and equipment needed to properly build out for use. The purchase of the vehicles will not exceed $378,000.
In other business, the council approved the updated the redefined wage scale and compensation plans approved for the 2023 budget; approved a resolution changing the name of the Building Inspection Department to the Planning and Engineering Department; approved line item additions for the new Planning and Engineering Department, as well as authorization for budget adjustments to fund the new department; and approved the appropriation of American Rescue Plan Act fund for two projects in the water and sewer department for the southwest sewer line extension project and the AR Highway 5 South extension project.
The next scheduled City Council meeting will be January 5 where all members of the council will be sworn in for 2023.
