Saturday basketball results include Cotter boys falling in Billy Ply Classic

The Billy Ply Boys’ Classic came to an end Saturday at Flippin.
Cotter had a rough outing in the first game of the day. The Warriors fell to Woodlawn 56-40.
Flippin was able to beat Rivercrest 70-64. The Bobcats were led by Rilyn Robins with 17 points, Corbin Rogers scored 13, and Gabe Davis and Alex Glenn each chipped in 11. Flippin improves to 10-8 on the year.
Bergman was able to improve on its season. The Panthers defeated Manila 59-46.

The Battle of the Border wrapped up its week of action at Mammoth Spring.
Viola’s girls were able to win the consolation championship. The Lady Longhorns breezed past Hillcrest 59-34.
Viola finished in fourth place on the boys’ side. The Longhorns lost to Alton by a final of 69-45.
Mammoth Spring was able to keep the girls’ championship trophy at home with a 63-55 win over Highland. Brynn Washam was the Lady Bears’ top scorer with 24 points, Sara Crowe had 16, and Adrianna Corbett provided 15.
The Mammoth Spring boys were runners-up following a 58-56 overtime loss to Highland. Andrew Jones led the Bears with 15 points, Gavin Boddie finished with 13, Brayden Cray ended up with 12, and Blake Rogers added 10 points.

Two area girls’ teams began action in the NEA Tournament. Izard County was one-and-done in the Division I bracket as they fell to East Poinsett County 58-49 at Brookland. Melbourne advanced in the Division II bracket after getting past Cedar Ridge 58-51 at Valley View High School in Jonesboro.
