A Baxter County man has been arrested for being paid to complete work on a property and not performing the work.

According to the probable cause affidavit, owners of a property in Gassville hired 49-year-old Jimmy William Cagle in May of 2021 to perform work for a new deck. Cagle allegedly presented a quote of $52,000 for the work and asked for a $20,000 deposit for material and other considerations, including subcontractors. The victims paid Cagle the $20,000 from their account.

Cagle then hired three different contractors to perform services for the job site including an engineering firm, an excavation company and a concrete finishing company which all performed work and submitted invoices for $4,700, $3,000 and $1,978, respectively, which was to be paid from the $20,000.

Other arrest warrants for Cagle have been issued for similar activity in Marion County.

Cagle was arrested on charges of felony counts of failure to appear as well as Class B and C felony counts of theft of property.

He was arrested Dec. 14 and is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on a $60,000 bond.
