
The Yellville-Summit High School basketball teams had mixed results against Lead Hill to begin hosting the Arkansas State University-Mountain Home/Arvest Bank Winter Jam on Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers finished the day on a successful note. Yellville-Summit defeated the Lady Tigers 67-41.
Yellville-Summit did not fare as well in the boys’ game as they were edged out by Lead Hill 62-59. Dawson Dillard was the Panthers’ leading scorer with 16 points. Mason Cain had 21 points and 10 assists for the Tigers, Kaden Baker provided 20 points, and Augustin Lahaut grabbed 10 rebounds.
Several area teams competed on the second day of the North Arkansas College Invitational Tournament at the Pioneer Pavilion in Harrison.
The Mountain Home Ten-10 homeschool boys were eliminated by Marshall 90-75. Gabe Spray led the Titans with 31 points, and Kaden Allen finished with 20.
In the other boys’ games, Ozark Mountain fell to Valley Springs 58-55, Mountain View destroyed Green Forest 67-24, and Rural Special lost to top-seeded Bergman 53-24.
On the girls’ side, Ozark Mountain ended up falling to Marshall 49-48, and Jasper pounded Shirley 60-25.
Three area boys’ teams suffered losses in the Cabool Holiday Tournament. On the consolation side of the bracket, Viola lost to Salem, Missouri, 63-54, and Dora fell to Plato 52-39. Gainesville lost its quarterfinal game to Norwood 65-60.
Two area girls’ teams played their openers in the Lady Blackhawk Holiday Invitational at Pea Ridge.
Viola was able to advance to the semifinals. The Lady Longhorns squeaked by Mena by a final of 58-56.
Mammoth Spring was also victorious after a 56-45 decision over Providence Academy. The Lady Bears were led by Brynn Washam with 22 points, and Adrianna Corbett ended up with 10.
Four area boys teams competed on the second day of the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational at Highland.
Calico Rock was able bounce back from its opening round loss in the Maverick Division. The Pirates defeated Melbourne 65-58.
Izard County was able to rally to force overtime and later topped Guy-Perkins 71-64. Tyler Hill was the Cougars’ leading scorer with 20 points, Kasen Black scored 17, Jude Everett had 14, and Keaton Melton added 10.
Mammoth Spring was sent to the consolation side of the bracket. The Bears fell to the New School 62-31.
Gainesville’s girls were bounced from the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs lost to Willow Springs 45-13.
Melbourne’s girls were able to advance to the Division II semifinals of the NEA Tournament at Jonesboro. The Lady Bearkatz beat Tuckerman 41-32.
Three area boys’ teams played in the Gold Division’s consolation bracket in the Blue and Gold Tournament at Springfield. West Plains breezed past Clever 78-51, Branson routed Crane 84-52, and Ava was bounced by Willard 57-22.
Three area girls’ teams began action in the Pink and White Tournament in Springfield. On the Pink Bracket, West Plains got past Willard 57-53, and Ava defeated Logan-Rogersville 57-37. In the White Bracket, Branson lost to Cabot 61-44.
Hollister split its quarterfinal games in the Walnut Grove Holiday Classic. On the boys’ side, the top-seeded Tigers topped Niangua 73-46. In the girls’ bracket, Hollister lost to Sparta 57-32.
