A new 911 System went operational earlier this month in Marion County that will help speed up response times during an emergency. The Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) has the ability to automatically gather information from the caller to save time according to Marion County 911 Coordinator Cassie Foster.

Foster recommends Marion County residents get the Smart 911 app on their cell phone or go to smart911.com and fill in your personal information. This is then integrated into the CAD system.

Marion County Office of Emergency Management Director Jim Kuchenbecker says CAD makes responding to calls faster since many of the law enforcement vehicles in the county have in-car computers dispatchers can send information to.

Foster says CAD also saves a lot of time and paperwork for 911 dispatchers.

In addition to the new CAD system, Kuchenbecker says the old county jail has been renovated and is being used by several departments.
