Bergman girls, Mountain View girls win junior high conference track meets

Several area junior high track athletes competed in conference meets on Tuesday.

The 3A-1 Junior Conference Meet was held at Elkins.
Bergman took the girls’ title. Valley Springs finished fifth, and Flippin was seventh. Individual wins went to Kinley See of Bergman in the high jump; Jacey Halitzka of Bergman in the shot put, the discus and the 800-meter run; and Kyna See of Bergman in the 1600-meter run. Flippin won the 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relays, and Bergman won the 4×100-meter relay.
Flippin ended up fifth on the boys’ side, Bergman took sixth place, and Valley Springs finished fifth. The title went to Elkins.

The 3A-2 Junior Conference Meet was held at Pocaontas.
The girls’ title went to Mountain View, Melbourne was third, and Salem ended up fifth. Individual wins went to Maci Webb of Melbourne in the 100-meter hurdles and the pole vault; Carma Bryan in the discus; Emma Akins of Mountain View in the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter run, the long jump and the triple jump; and Erin Akins of Mountain View in the 1600-meter run. Salem’s team of Gracie Abney, Abby Criss, Brylee Fowler and Maggie Wiseman won the 4×800-meter relay.
On the boys’ side, Melbourne took third place, Salem finished fourth, and Mountain View was sixth. Dawon Cooper of Melbourne won the 400-meter dash and the pole vault, Ladd Cook of Mountain View won the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump, and Kashton Turner of Mountain View won the discus. Salem’s team of Jackson Taylor, Aiden Province, Ethan Birmingham and Kaden Brink won the 4×100-meter relay; and Melbourne’s team of Nic Sitton, Jordan Golver, Kale Caraway and Cooper won the 4×800-meter relay.
