The Mountain Home High School boys’ soccer team began the Class 5A State Tournament on a winning note Thursday at Paragould. The Bombers were able to pull off a 4-2 upset over Searcy.
Mountain Home struck first nearly seven minutes into the match on a goal by James Douglas. The Lions responded with just over 11 minutes left in the half, and the teams went into the locker room with a 1-1 tie. The Bombers went back on top less than five minutes into the second half on a penalty kick by Douglas. Searcy tied it back up nearly 2 1/2 minutes later, but that didn’t last long. Douglas caught the Lions sleeping and bounced the ensuing kickoff into the net. Alvaro Salas scored an insurance goal on a header with nearly 21 minutes left, and Douglas provided the assist. That would be the last of the scoring as Mountain Home went on to win by two.
The Bombers advance to the quarterfinals with a record of 17-6-2.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Harrison’s boys saw their season end at Valley View High School in Jonesboro. The match needed overtime, but the Goblins ended up falling to the host Blazers 3-2.
The Harrison girls dominated their first match in the tournament. The Lady Goblins were able to shut out Paragould by a final of 6-0.
Mountain View’s boys won their opener in the Class 3A State Tournament at the Anstaff Soccer Complex in Harrison. The Yellowjackets blanked Danville 4-0.
