The Bakersfield Volunteer Fire Department is warning the public of a new apparent text scam.
According to a release from the department if patrons receive a text stating Bakersfield Volunteer Fire Department limited edition t-shirts are available, it is not accurate.
The text states the t-shirts cannot be found in stores, and provides a link within the message.
The VFD does not offer shirts to anyone except active volunteers.
They do advise those who have received the message to report it as junk.
As with all scam messages, it is advised to not click the link within the message.
