The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office and the Baxter County Sheriff’s Foundation have announced they have been awarded a grant from the Arkansas State Police’s Fiscal Year 2023 Highway Safety Federal Subgrant Program in the amount of $107,160. This grant will be used for the purchase and installation of mobile data computers for Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles which will allow deputies to utilize the eCite and eCrash programs. Deputies will also have mobile access to both the Arkansas and National Crime Information Center databases, as well as interconnectivity with the Sheriff’s Office Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.

According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, this grant will equip 17 vehicles with computers, printers, scanners, docking stations, and other associated equipment. In addition, it will increase deputy safety as less time will be spent on traffic stops, enhance efficiency and allow deputies to spend more time in the field and less time at the office working on paperwork and reports.

The grant requires a local match of 10% ($10,716) which will be provided by the Baxter County Sheriff’s Foundation, Inc., which means Baxter County itself will not incur any expenses for the project.

The goal is to eventually outfit the remaining 23 certified deputy vehicles with the mobile data computers at a cost of approximately $6,500 per car.

The Sheriff’s Foundation is a 501(c)3 domestic non-profit corporation organized in 2009 for the purpose of providing support and assistance to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office and its employees. Since its inception, the Sheriff’s Foundation has provided more than $200,000 in equipment, goods, scholarships, and services to the Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff’s personnel, all of which was possible because of funds donated to the Sheriff’s Foundation by the generosity of members of the public who support law enforcement.
