A Gassville man has been detained after pointing a pistol at his wife, threatening to shoot himself.

According to an incident report from the Gassville Police Department, officers dispatched to a residence along U.S. Highway 62/412 West for a domestic dispute. Authorities state deputies from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office were already on scene and made initial contact with the involved parties.

As law enforcement spoke with the suspect, identified as 58-year-old George Photides, it was observed he was visibilty intoxicated.

The victim told authorities she had gone to bed around 11:45. She then stated Photides got out of the shower angry and stated “he was tired of being old” and didn’t want to live anymore. The victim then stated Photides went to the back porch where she heard a single gunshot. When the victim went to check on Photides, she saw his head down and thought he had shot himself but Photides began talking about killing himself, and allegedly pointed the pistol at her. The victim stated she begged Photides not to shoot her or himself.

The victim then called a family member about the incident and when he arrived, the situation allegedly began to escalate. The family member removed the guns from the house and left. Photides, still angry, then allegedly hit a minor child on the arm and told them not to speak to the cops when they arrived. The victim and the minor were able to escape and call 911.

After speaking with the victim, authorities arrested Photides and he was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center for aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, endangering the welfare of a minor, and assault on a family or household member.
