An Ava man is facing additional felony charges after an investigation into new abuse allegations were brought forward.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Court Probationary Service Office on June 16 where 38-year-old Ellis Rayls was meeting with his probation officer. Rayls had an outstanding Grand Jury Indictment stemming from a case in 2022.
On August 8th, 2022 deputies responded to the Goodhope area regarding a juvenile who had ran away. The juvenile was found at a neighbor’s home and upon interviewing the juvenile, she disclosed several allegations of physical abuse.
In November 2022, Rayls was extradited from North Dakota on a Douglas County warrant for two counts of abuse or neglect of a child, endangering the welfare of a child and 11 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. His bond for that incident was set at $100,000.
New allegations have been brought against Rayls in May 2023 for inappropriate conduct with a minor.
Rayls faces additional felony charges of second-degree child molestation/aggravated sexual offense with a child less than 17 years of age, statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy and two counts of second degree statutory sodomy. He is currently being held in the Douglas County Detention Center on $100,000 cash bond, with the conditions of CPS supervision with GPS, no contact with the victims and no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18.
