A fire destroyed a fifth-wheel camper and damaged other campers at a local RV resort last weekend. No one was injured from the blaze.

According to a Northeast Lakeside Fire Department spokesperson, personnel responded to the Chaparral at Cranfield around 8:40 last Saturday morning and found the camper fully engulfed. The camper was owned by a family from West Plains who had driven into Mountain Home. The family was gone approximately 15 minutes when a witness claimed to have heard a loud boom. The witness went outside and found the camper’s air conditioning unit on fire.

The camper was a total loss, and the blaze reportedly spread. The department spokesperson states four other campers had either heat damage or were deemed a total loss. The cause and origin of the fire is currently unknown.

Northeast Lakeside was assisted on the scene by the Mountain Home, Henderson, Gamaliel and Hand Cove fire departments. Personnel were on the scene for nearly an hour-and-a-half.
