A leader of an athletic program at North Arkansas College in Harrison has decided to put a wrap on his career. Pioneers’ head men’s basketball coach Steve Hunter has announced his retirement, and his son Jordan will take over as interim head coach for the upcoming season.
Steve Hunter was hired to lead Northark in August 2014. During his nine-year tenure with the Pioneers, he had a record of 180-94.
Prior to his time at Northark, Steve Hunter led three high school boys’ basketball programs in Missouri, including West Plains. He led his teams to a combined six final fours within a 10-year period and won the Class 4 state title in 2003 at Ozark.
Steve Hunter’s overall record during his 37-year career is 716-348. He was the Missouri Coach of the Year in 1996 and 2003 and an inductee of the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2009.
Jordan Hunter will take the reins of the program until a new coach is hired.
