According to the probable cause affidavit, on Aug. 19 the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man who had assaulted another person and took a child from his ex-girlfriend at a restaurant in Mammoth Spring.
The victims told law enforcement the suspect, 38-year-old Charles Martin, ran into the lobby of the restaurant where he assaulted his ex-girlfriend’s father by shoving him down and punching him multiple times in the head. After taking the child, Martin proceeded to get into his truck and began to flee towards Hardy where he was stopped by law enforcement. The officer then took the child and returned them to the mother.
During the police interview, Martin stated he had set up a meeting with his ex-girlfriend to return her belongings in Mammoth Spring as it was a halfway point. He stated he grabbed the child and when he was leaving the victim attempted to stop him. Martin admitted to pushing him to the ground. He stated there currently wasn’t a custody agreement between him and his ex-girlfriend. Martin said he snapped and fled.
