The Mountain Home High School football team’s losing streak in one of the state’s oldest rivalries has come to an end. The Bombers’ first home game of 2023 ended with a 44-31 victory over Harrison.

Mountain Home jumped out on the Goblins early when Cade Yates connected on a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jett Hannaford. The Bombers’ lead got bigger nearly six minutes later on a two-yard run by Chris Hubbard, and the margin became three possessions in the second quarter on a 35-yard field goal by Kelso Haught. Harrison’s first score came with about seven minutes left of the first half. The two teams seemed to exchange touchdowns for the remainder of the period, and Mountain Home went into the locker room up 30-14. Mountain Home padded its lead in the third quarter after a 42-yard pass play from Yates to Hannaford set up a three-yard touchdown run by Hubbard. Harrison came back and cut the margin to 13, and they would later recover an onside kick that would set up another scoring drive and make the score 37-31. However, the Bombers put the game out of reach on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Yates to Hannaford, and they went on to win by 13.

Yates was 16 of 21 through the air for 378 yards and three touchdown, and he also carried the ball 10 times for 27 yards and another score. Hannaford had seven catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns, Anthony Milbourne caught five passes for 116 yards and another score, and Hubbard had 22 carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns. For the Goblins, Braden Long ran the ball 32 times for 164 yards and a touchdown.

Mountain Home wraps up non-conference play at 2-0. Harrison falls to 1-1 on the season.

The Bombers will continue their home stand next week for their 6A-West opener with Greenwood.
