
The Yellville-Summit High School football team was able to wrap up nonconference play with an unbeaten record. The Panthers went on the road Friday and eeked out a 36-35 victory at Mountainburg. Yellville-Summit improves to 4-0 on the season, and they’ll open 3A-2 action next week at Perryville.
Salem will also take an undefeated mark into its conference slate. The Greyhounds, currently ranked third in Class 3A by the Arkansas Sports Media, defeated Walnut Ridge 28-15. Salem is now 4-0 on the year, and they’ll wrap up their home stand next Friday by hosting Atkins.
Melbourne finished nonconference play on a rough note in front of the home crowd. The Bearkatz suffered a 42-14 defeat to Hoxie, the fifth-ranked team in Class 3A. Melbourne drops to 1-3 on the season, and their next game will be in two weeks when they begin the 3A-2 by hosting Yellville-Summit.
On the eight-man level, two area teams in the Arkansas Sports Media rankings squared off. Izard County, the second-ranked team in Classes 2A/1A, ended up losing 44-8 to Mountain View, the top-ranked team in Classes 4A/3A. The Cougars’ record falls to 2-2, and they’ll travel to Pleasant Plains next week to meet Midland. The Yellowjackets remain unbeaten in three games on the year, and they’ll go to Fountain Lake next Friday.
Marshall wrapped up its home stand on a rough note. The Bobcats ended up with a 30-20 defeat at the hands of Subiaco Academy, the third-ranked team in Classes 4A/3A. Marshall falls to 1-2 on the year, and they’ll travel to Corning next week.
