3 MH teams finish 2nd, junior girls win Bomber Open

Several cross country runners gathered at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home on Thursday for the Bomber Open. Mountain Home finished second in both high school divisions with the wins going to Jonesboro.

The individual winner in the high school boys’ race was Rydan Deckard of Alton, Mo. Ryan Amick led the Bombers by finishing ninth in a time of 18:40.19, and teammate Bryson Huggins was 10th. Conner Valentine crossed the line in seventh place to lead Harrison. Among the top performers for other area schools, Melbourne’s Shawn Worthman ended up 14th, Rene Rascom of Flippin took 19th place, James Crowe of Salem finished 27th, Calico Rock’s Luke Moody was 32nd, and Quade Perryman of Viola ended up 42nd.

Jonesboro freshman Lauren Thompson captured the high school girls’ individual title. Mountain Home was led by Erin Smith as she took fifth place in 22:13.13, Mackenzi Clark finished sixth, Camilla Johnson was eighth, and Ella Green ended up ninth. For other area teams, Mountain View’s Ellie Akins was the runner-up, Missy Wilson of Viola took fourth place, Marleigh Sellars of Salem finished 11th, Melbourne’s Savannah Sheedy was 15th, Peyton Smith of Harrison ended up 17th, and Emma Brickwell of Calico Rock took 20th place.

Mountain Home won the junior high girls’ division, and Harrison finished second. The Junior Lady Bombers’ Lucy Koehn won the race in 10:26.56, Cisily Goettler finished fourth, and Callie Koehler was fifth. For other area schools, Abby Mongillo of West Plains ended up third, Mila Baethke of Harrison took sixth place, Valley Springs’ Katie Riggins finished ninth, Morgan Newberry of Viola was 13th, Kaylee Galloway of Calico Rock ended up 22nd, Melbourne’s Emma Rush took 24th place, Kali Pearce of Flippin finished 30th, and Maggie Wiseman of Salem was 31st.

Mountain Home ended up second in the junior high boys’ division with the win going to Harrison. The Junior Goblins’ Hunter Frickle won the race. For the Junior Bombers, Wave Simmons ended up as the runner-up in 9:00.89, Finley Maxey took fifth place, Oakley Recktenwald finished eighth, and Rhis Hammonds was ninth. Among other area schools, Calico Rock’s Eli Thornton ended up sixth, Eli Hawkins of West Plains took 16th place, Mark Ryan of Melbourne finished 38th, Viola’s Mattix Rowden was 39th, and Salem’s Kai Britain ended up 60th.
