An Izard County man who had a bulge in one of his socks, fled from a deputy who was trying to take him into custody, but was then apprehended after a short pursuit. Fifty-two-year old Lucas Shane Johnson of Melbourne is facing several charges from the Saturday night incident.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a deputy was dispatched to a business in Melbourne for a suspicious person. The deputy found Johnson at the business, and during questioning, noticed a bulge in the man’s right tube sock. When asked what was in his sock, Johnson pulled some basketball cards from the left sock. When the deputy asked about the other sock, Johnson pushed the bulge down farther down into his shoe, then said he didn’t have anything in his sock.

When questioned further by the deputy, Johnson said it was weed and he has a medical marijuana card. He then admitted it was “crystal” and removed a baggie from his sock.

As the deputy tried to take Johnson into custody, he pulled away and started running. The deputy deployed his Phazzer, but Johnson continued to flee. He jumped over the bridge barrier of Mill Creek and tumbled down the embankment. He then went up the embankment and fled on the sidewalk on Arkansas Highway 69. Another deputy arrived and was able to block Johnson with his vehicle and he was taken into custody.

Johnson is charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of fleeing and refusal to submit to arrest. His bond is set at $5,000.
