A 19-year-old Midway man appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday and requested a bond be set for him on charges stemming from a violent incident at Baxter Health in late May.

Christopher Richard Jorsch, Jr., is alleged to have thrown a tantrum at the health care facility during which he is reported to have spit on security guards, made threats to kill numerous people at the hospital and destroyed property.

Defense attorneys have also filed motions asking for psychological examinations for Jorsch. The examinations are scheduled for October 5.

Circuit Judge John Putman said with the mental examinations so close, he did not want to make changes to the Jorsch, Jr.’s bond situation.

This resulted in Jorsch having a mini-tantrum. As he was walking away after his appearance before the judge, Jorsch was heard to use an expletive as he wished everyone “a blessed (expletive deleted) day.”

The use of such language can draw a contempt of court citation, but Judge Putman said that in this case, “it’s really no use to give someone jail time who is already in jail.”

COMBATIVE BEHAVIOR

The incident at Baxter Health began when security officers at the hospital were told by a charge nurse that Jorsch needed to be put in a restraint chair because of his combative behavior.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Mountain Home police officers were called to the hospital to assist with Jorsch who was reported to have not only become aggressive with staff but to have destroyed a Plexiglas panel at the nurses’ station.

While security officers were attempting to get Jorsch in the restraint chair, he spat in the face of one of the officers and started screaming that he was going to kill everyone in the hospital.

Even after Mountain Home police arrived, Jorsch continued to make death threats. At one point, he was alleged to have said that when he got out of jail he would “come back and kill everyone” in the hospital.

Jorsch is charged with battery in the second degree on a police officer, terroristic threatening and criminal mischief.
