A rural Yellville woman was injured Monday afternoon in an accident involving three vehicles in Cotter. Sixty-one-year-old Sandra Long was transported by ambulance to Baxter Health with what was termed a “suspected minor injury.”
According to the report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Long was traveling in the right lane on U.S. Highway 62/412, and a pickup truck driven by 63-year-old Betty Ousley of Tecumseh was in the passing lane. Long and Ousley approached the intersection with Harding Boulevard (U.S. Highway 62B) when another pickup truck, driven by Richard Gipson of Cotter, attempted to turn left from Harding Boulevard onto Highway 62/412.
Long reportedly swerved to avoid Gipson’s truck, and her vehicle struck Ousley’s truck in the passing lane. Long’s vehicle turned right, left the roadway and struck an embankment and a ditch. Ousley’s truck pulled over further down the road.
Ousley and Gipson avoided injury in the 12:42 p.m. accident. Gipson was cited for failure to yield when turning left.
Damage was estimated at $6,000 to Long’s vehicle and $5,000 to Ousley’s truck. Gipson’s truck was not damaged.
