Marion Co. Sheriff’s Office asking public for assistance for suspect whereabouts

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect involved in a shooting Sunday night.

According to Marion County Sheriff Gregg Alexander, the dispatch center received a call at approximately 6:49 Sunday evening from an unidentified female stating her friend had been shot. She stated she was driving near the Baxter Health Ambulance Facility in Yellville where she was directed to take the victim to the facility for treatment. The victim, identified as 46-year-old Michael Vetor, was transported by ambulance to Baxter Health where he was later transferred to University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock for further treatment.

During the investigation, deputies identified 31-year-old Leigh Blackmon as a suspect and arrest warrants have been issued for first degree battery and possession of firearms by certain persons. Authorities state Blackmon may be traveling on a motorcycle or a gold Nissan Rogue with an unknown white female, and may be in possession of a firearm.

Investigators are asking the public to be on the lookout for Blackmon. Anyone with information about his whereabouts are asked to call the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 870-449-4236.
