The Mountain Home High School Band received straight superior first division ratings from all three judges at the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association Region VI Marching Assessment held in Rogers on Tuesday.

According to a release from Band Director, Tom Chentnik, there are nine regions in the state, with Region VI extending from Mountain Home to the Bentonville/Rogers area. The region contest is a ratings only competition with a 1st division being the highest score & a 5th division being the lowest, based upon a rubric that breaks down the music and marching performances, along with the overall effect.

The first division ratings are the first leg of the ASBOA Sweepstakes Award, which honors bands for excellence in marching, concert band, and sight reading. The MHHS Band will work to complete another Sweepstakes Award in March when they travel to Harrison for the concert and sight-reading competition. The band has two remaining competitions at Arkansas State on October 28 and Little Rock on November 1.

The Annual Band Marching Exhibition will be held on Thursday, November 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Bomber Stadium. The junior and senior high bands will both perform their 2023 halftime shows. The high school band will also perform their “lights out” performance after their regular one. The lights out performance is a tradition started several years ago where the stadium lights are turned out and students light up themselves and their instruments as they perform.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
